Holy basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum), also known as thulasi, is a plant used in Ayurveda for general health improvement and long life. It is distinguished by i.a. antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective and hepatoprotective activity.

For thousands of years it has been used in Ayurveda and has been considered as adaptogen, which balances the course of processes taking place in the body, helpful in adjusting to stress. Apart from anti-stress effect, it is also believed the Holy Basil promotes longevity, is conducive to sharpening memory, strengthens the immune system and improves libido.

The extract from the leaves of Holy Basil is used in dietary supplements. The preparations containing Holy Basil find application i.a. in case of long-lasting psychological stress, elderly age, aggregation of toxins, deterioration of cognitive functions and drop of libido.
