Pea protein is one of the most nutritious plant proteins. It is most often extracted from yellow (less frequently green) peas, which is then deprived of fiber, starch, and other non-protein ingredients. It has an excellent amino acid profile, an extremely high concentration of lysine, arginine, and phenylalanine and it is rich in BCAA amino acids. Pea protein digests quite slowly, thanks to which it provides long-lasting access to amino acids and the feeling of satiety.

Supplements based on pea protein are popular especially among people who do not eat meat. They also work well with food intolerances – they do not contain lactose or gluten, nor are they as allergenic as soy. In terms of effectiveness, they can boldly compete with milk proteins – research shows that pea protein also effectively promotes the development of muscle mass. It is worth knowing that about 9% of pea protein mass falls for leucine (for comparison, leucine content in whey protein is only a little bit more higher, about 10-11%), considered a typical anabolic amino acid.

Preparations from this category are a novelty on the market, but they are worth considering if we decide to include protein supplements in the diet. They are an interesting alternative to typical whey-based nutrients. They easily dissolve, taste great, and when ready for consumption, they have a pleasant, smooth and slightly fluffy consistency.
