Vitamin B8, also called inositol, is one of the vitamins that belong to the large B group. It is not as well-known as other vitamins but, just like them, it has a unique and crucial role to play when it comes to maintaining health and optimal shape, particularly of the nervous system.

Inositol is the guardian angel of our thought processes and it determines good mood. It improves your mental shape, stabilises your mood and increases stress resistance. Therefore, inositol frees you from states of anxiety and makes depression and ungrounded panic attacks less probable. It helps with falling asleep and is one of the best relaxing agents with no side effects. Moreover, it contributes to the improvement of mental capacity and thought processes.

Vitamin B8 is successfully applied in diabetes prevention. It stimulates the activity of insulin, eliminates diabetic complications and, according to some scientists, it can even heal the damage of peripheral nerves caused by diabetes. It is more and more often talked about in the context of cancer prevention (lung cancer in particular). Together with choline, inositol participates in cholesterol transformations, contributing to the improvement of your lipid profile. It is also responsible for the transport of fat in your body, preventing the formation of its deposits in the liver and other organs.

Vitamin B8 deficiencies can be caused by problems with the functioning of the digestive system. The vitamin is very sensitive to caffeine, so people who drink a lot of coffee should also ensure that the right amount of inositol is supplemented. Unfortunately, water also washes vitamin B8 out of the organism, so those who drink more than 2.5l of water per day might also be prone to the deficiencies of this invaluable vitamin.

When you decide to supplement it, you do not have to worry about overdosing vitamin B8; it is water-soluble and its excess is excreted with urine and sweat. Even in the case of large doses that came from supplements, no toxicity of the compound has been noted.
