Zinc acetate – zinc as the salt of this element and acetic acid. Zinc acetate is a good source of zinc ions. Zinc as the salt of acetic acid is well tolerated by the body. It is best absorbed at low pH. It breaks down in the body, thereby releasing zinc cations which are absorbed into the blood in the small intestine. The rate of absorption depends from zinc levels in the body. Zinc acetate should be taken on an empty stomach or protein-containing meal. It is not recommended to take it together with iron supplements because zinc reduces the the absorption of this element. Food rich in phytates and fibre inhibits the absorption of zinc acetate.
