Birch (Betula verrucosa) is a widespread tree in the northern hemisphere in temperate climates (also in Poland). Its source of medicinal substances are: Leaf (Folium Betulae), buds (Gemmae Betulae) and growth (fungus), surrounding the trunks (Inonotus obliquus). Young leaves contain saponins, flavonoids, catechine tannins, organic acids (such as ascorbic), minerals, triterpenes, resins and trace amounts of essential oil. Buds - essential oil, triterpenes and polyporenic compounds. Polypore contains sterol compounds and triterpenes. Birch leaves have a diuretic, diaphoretic, anti-swelling, toning, detoxifying, anti-rheumatic action and they have influence on increase the uric acid excretion out of the body, sodium and chloride ions. Preparations from the buds are cholagogic and cholepoietic. Birch polypore enhances immunity, is strengthening and anti-inflammatory. Applied externally and internally.
