AH Astaxanthin is a dietary supplement containing natural astaxanthin extracted from algae.
Natural Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin is a compound from the carotenoid group, and is also a natural pink pigment that gives color to many organisms: fish, shellfish and some microorganisms. In this product, astaxanthin comes from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis, which is the richest source of it found in nature. This carotenoid is sometimes referred to as one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature.
In one scientific publication* on the properties of astaxanthin, its antioxidant activity was described as "distinguished from other antioxidants by having the highest oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), 100-500 times higher than α-tocopherol and 10 times higher free radical inhibition activity than related antioxidants (α-tocopherol, α-carotene, β-carotene, lutein and lycopene)."
