Life Extension L-Theanine is a dietary supplement containing 100 mg of L-theanine per capsule. It should be added that this is not green tea leaf extract, but a product obtained during a patented fermentation process that mimics the natural one occurring in the plant. It is the purest, best studied with the highest quality L-theanine available on the market, containing 100% of this isomer.

It is worth knowing that in these days of poor control over the supplement market, many products with "L-Theanine" in their name contain only half of this substance in the total weight of the product. L-theanine can increase amounts of GABA, which is said to allow better rest and create a sense of good mood. It's worth mentioning that caffeine, for example, decreases available γ-aminobutyric acid at synapses, and this can cause anxiety, nervousness and sleep disturbances.

Theanine is considered to be a nootropic compound that can have a calming effect, offset stress and anxiety, and improve mood. When tested in vitro in neuronal cell cultures and in vivo in rodents, theanine significantly reversed the toxicity induced by glutamate, a substance that is harmful to the human body. It interferes with the brain stem and artificially induces appetite stimulation. It can act on the limbic system, causing excessive sweating, stress reactions, elevated blood pressure, palpitations and migraines. It also reduces perception, learning ability and concentration. Glutamate's neurotoxicity may be one of the causes of neurodegenerative and degenerative brain diseases.
