Saccharomyces Boulardii + MOS is a supplement containing probiotic yeast cultures Saccharomyces boulardii and mannooligosaccharides (MOS) acting as prebiotics. The use of the product supports the maintenance of the normal composition and function of the intestinal microbiome and provides a strong anti-diarrheal effect.

Saccharomyces Boulardii is a non-pathogenic yeast strain, which is characterized by a growth temperature of 37OC, resistance to antibiotics, low pH and bile. Thanks to the above properties, this probiotic can easily enter the intestines and then grow there, positively affecting the human body. Saccharomyces boulardii is considered a safe and well-tolerated strain.

With respect to lipopolysaccharides produced by E coli (LPS), Clostridium difficile toxins A and B, and Vibrio cholerae toxin, Saccharomyces Boulardii has antitoxin properties. This strain synthesizes antitoxins - specific proteins characterized by enzymatic activity, whose action makes it possible to reduce the secretion of water and sodium into the intestinal lumen, reduce the unpleasant symptoms of diarrhea, as well as neutralize harmful substances released by pathogenic bacteria.

The antimicrobial effect is due to the fact that the Saccharomyces Boulardii strain has a positive effect on stabilizing the intestinal membrane and inhibiting the growth of pathogenic strains (e.g. C. difficile, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli). As a result of infection of the intestine with various pathogenic bacteria, the closing envelopes between enterocytes are destroyed. Pathogens attach themselves to intestinal cells, move inside them and cause their destruction. This leads to negative symptoms, which we call diarrhea.

The use of antibiotics disrupts the balance of the composition of the intestinal microflora, which consequently impairs its function. Saccharomyces boulardii participates in the modulation of intestinal flora by reactivating the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which play an important role in water and electrolyte resorption and counteracting acute diarrhea.

Oral administration of Saccharomyces boulardii results in strengthening of the immune system and modulation of both innate and acquired immune responses. Supplementation of this probiotic stimulates antibody synthesis, cytokine production and activation of regulatory T cells. Noteworthy is the fact that these positive effects are observed even in the case of underdeveloped immune systems.

One of the most peculiar properties of the yeast Saccharomyces boulardii, is its enzymatic activity, which proves particularly useful in the case of viral infections. This yeast is involved in the formation of polyamines, which cause the acceleration of maturation of enterocytes that produce important digestive enzymes - disaccharidases and metalloproteases. Disaccharidases are involved in breaking down disaccharides (sucrose, lactose and maltose) into monosaccharides. They are present along the brushstroke membrane of differentiated mature enterocytes.

Impaired function of these enzymes results in the accumulation of osmotically active polysaccharides (such as lactose, maltose and sucrose) in the intestinal space, and with them excess water, which can result in profuse diarrhea. Only fully developed enterocytes can synthesize disaccharidases.

Scientific research justifies the intake of S. boulardii in the treatment and support of acute infectious d iarrhea among children and in the prevention of diarrhea resulting from the use of antibiotics among both children and adults. This strain of probiotic yeast is also believed to be effective in preventing recurrence of Clostridium difficile infection and in preventing traveler's diarrhea. Taking Saccharomyces Boulardii during therapy to get rid of Helicobacter pylori increases the effectiveness of eradication and reduces the risk of adverse effects of therapy, particularly diarrhea.

Manno-oligosaccharides (MOS) provide nutrients that positively influence the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria, which exhibit beneficial effects in the lower gastrointestinal tract. By modulating the pH of the environment, they limit the growth of pathogens, and by binding pathogenic bacteria, they prevent them from adhering to the intestinal wall and allow them to be more easily excreted with the feces.

In conclusion, Jarrow Saccharomyces Boulardii + MOS is a dietary supplement that will work well as a remedy and treatment for diarrhea of any type (bacterial, viral, antibiotic, locomotor, enteral feeding).
