Swanson Sulforaphane is a dietary supplement that includesBroccoPhane®, a highly concentrated, patent-protected broccoli seed extract. It is standardized for the content of sulforaphane, considered to be the key factor responsible for the health-promoting properties attributed to the brassica vegetable.

The product improves detoxification of the body, prevents DNA mutation and helps remove pathogenic microorganisms from the body. It promotes the strengthening of health and can reduce the risk of developing a great many diseases, including cancer.

Sulforaphane is an organic chemical compound that is part of the isothiocyanate group. According to scientists, its biological activity and multidirectional effects on the human body allow it to be used in the prevention and treatment of a great many serious diseases. Among other things, it is attributed to anti-cancerogenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Unfortunately, sulforaphane is very difficult to obtain from natural sources. The precursor for its production is glucoraphanin, which is present in cruciferous vegetables. Exceptionally large amounts of it are deposited in the seeds and sprouts of broccoli. The process of converting glucoraphanin to biologically active sulforaphane requires the presence of a specific enzyme - myrosinase. It is very sensitive, for example, to high temperatures, so heat treatment of fresh broccoli makes it virtually impossible to produce active sulforaphane. In practice, this means that glucoraphanin enters the body in an intact form. The process of its hydrolysis can be partially carried out by the microflora residing in the large intestine, but then the amounts of sulforaphane that would be of therapeutic importance will not be formed.

Placed in the composition of the supplementBroccoPhane® have been prepared in such a way as to provide a large amount of finished, active sulforaphane. Thus, you can count on all the benefits of its activity in the body.

Effective detoxification of the body
Sulforaphane is a very effective activator of enzymes responsible for detoxification of the body. It has a strong effect especially on the enzymes of the first and second phases of detoxification. Thus, it improves metabolism and elimination of potentially mutagenic and genotoxic compounds from the body, and indirectly can also reduce their reactivity.

Such action brings many benefits to the liver, which is relieved in its work. In addition, research shows that sulforaphane has a protective effect on hepatocytes and prevents them from being damaged by various pharmaceuticals, alcohol, preservatives added to food, etc. It can also help increase the concentration of protective glutathione.

Anticancer potential
The mechanism of action described above, related to the regulation of the expression of enzymes of the first and second phases of detoxification, is important for the prevention of pathological tumorigenesis. Mutagenic and genotoxic compounds must be eliminated from the body before they damage DNA and initiate the process of carcinogenesis. Thanks to the presence of sulforaphane, this process takes place quickly and efficiently.

Moreover, sulforaphane can also directly influence and alter the process of tumorigenesis. In studies, the compound has been shown to be a potent cell cycle blocker and inducer of apoptosis of abnormal cells. In addition, it promotes inhibition of cancer cell proliferation and limits the expansion of genetically engineered ones.

Antimicrobial activity
Sulforaphane exhibits strong antimicrobial properties and helps eliminate pathogenic microorganisms from the body. It is especially recommended for people infected with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which contributes to the formation of stomach ulcers, and in extreme cases can even lead to the development of gastric cancer.

Scientists have not identified the mechanism responsible for these properties, but both in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that it only took five days of sulforaphane administration for as many as eight of the eleven strains of H. pylori to leave the body. It seems that sulforaphane not only promotes the elimination of the bacteria from the body, but also strengthens the gastric mucosa, which prevents its colonization by H. pylori.

Anti-inflammatory effect
Sulforaphane promotes a reduction in the intensity of inflammation in the body. It works well in the prevention of diseases induced by chronic inflammation, and can also be of help in certain autoimmune conditions, in the course of which inflammation is exacerbated.

Scientists speculate that sulforaphane directly affects the activity on the transcription factor NF-kβ. This results in a reduction in the expression of iNOS and COX-2 enzymes and a decrease in the production of the cytokine TNF-α. Sulforaphane can probably also interact with macrophages and inhibit the release of HMGB1 protein. This protein strongly promotes processes involved in the inflammatory response, which consequently causes the intensity of inflammation.

In conclusion, Swanson Sulforaphane is a supplement that allows you to take full advantage of the potential inherent in sulforaphane. It is especially recommended for people who are exposed to constant contact with toxins, i.e. residents of large cities, nicotine addicts, abusers of pharmaceuticals (e.g. painkillers), and eaters of processed foods.
