In standard supplementation, the doses 100-200 mg of 5-HTP per day are used. It is assumed that such a dose is sufficient to improve mood and decrease sleep problems. In case of diagnosed depression or chronic sleeplessness, after consulting a specialist, we may try higher doses (up to 300 mg per day).
Supplementation must not be used by people who already use antidepressants from SSRI or MAO groups, as combining them with 5-HTP may lead to developing life-threatening serotonin syndrome.
The supplement should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably in the evening, before bedtime. Chewable tablets with a pleasant lemon taste. Do not swallow the tablets, chew them until they completely dissolve.

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a metabolite of essential amino acid, tryptophan, involved in the synthesis of serotonin which is a neurotransmitter and a hormone responsible for the quality of sleep (melatonin). Used in medicine as an adjuvant, to a small extent supporting the treatment of depression and insomnia. Due to the presence of melatonin at the same time it is improving the quality of sleep and improving the regeneration process.
5-HTP is a component of supplements supporting the production of growth hormone and it is a part of some fat reducers (reducing appetite).
Dosage: Doses commonly used in supplements, depending on the purpose: 100-500 mg daily in divided doses, including approx. 50-150 mg before bedtime.
